Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Laboratory
The Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Laboratory of the School of
Pharmacy was established with the purpose of characterizing the pharmacokinetics
and pharmacodynamics of selected drugs in the population of Puerto Rico.
The focus is to determine if there are important differences between other
populations and the Puerto Rican population requiring dosage adjustment
to optimize efficacy and/or minimize toxicity.
Currently, there are various collaborative studies with faculty members
of the School of Medicine and clinicians from several hospitals in the
Puerto Rico Medical Center. The Laboratory offers the opportunity of expanding
preclinical and clinical studies by adding the components of pharmacokinetics
and pharmacodynamics study design, drug analysis, and data interpretation.
In addition to investigation, the Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
Laboratory is used as a teaching workshop and for clinical services.
