The Medicinal Plants Experimental Garden was developed with the purpose of investigating and providing information on the chemical content and pharmacological effects of natural products. Established in 1936 by the School of Pharmacy, it was transferred in 1949 to the University of Puerto Rico Experiment Station's Botanical Garden. It occupies an acre of land in which approximately 200 species of medicinal plants and 30 species of poisonous plants are cultivated. The Garden is a valuable resource for research.
